LLM programs

An LLM is a master's degree in law for students who already hold a bachelor's degree in law or a related field. Ireland is a genuinely strong destination for this qualification, and here is why.

Why study law in Ireland

Ireland is a full EU member with one of the most internationally connected legal environments in the world. Google, Apple, Meta and Amazon all have their European headquarters here, and they all need legal teams. For students interested in corporate law, intellectual property or international business law, Ireland puts you close to where the work actually is.

Brexit also created a unique situation. With the UK outside the EU, Ireland is now the only major common law jurisdiction inside the European Union. That makes an Irish law degree particularly valuable if you plan to work across both common law and EU legal systems.

What you can study

Irish universities offer LLM programs across a wide range of specialisations including international law, commercial law, human rights law, intellectual property and IT law, EU law, criminal justice and environmental law. Most programs run one year full-time.

Tuition fees

Fees for international students range from €9,000 to €22,000 per year depending on the university and program.

Entry requirements

A bachelor's degree in law or a related field is required. Some universities also consider applicants with relevant professional experience. An IELTS score of 6.5 or above is standard.

After you graduate

You can stay in Ireland and work for up to 24 months after completing your degree. With major multinationals headquartered in Dublin, career opportunities in corporate and international law are substantial.

Top universities for LLM in Ireland

Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University of Galway, University College Cork, University of Limerick and Griffith College all offer LLM programs with different specialisations.
